Threat Protection
Security Solutions
Software that catches what shouldn't reach your inbox or your machines, actively managed by us.
Overview
How most security trouble actually starts
Most security incidents at smaller businesses around Coventry and the West Midlands start in fairly ordinary ways. Someone clicks a link in an email that looks like it's from a supplier, or a laptop picks something up from a website that shouldn't have been visited. The fix isn't complicated, but it does need to be in place before anything happens.
Two layers do most of the work here: email security and managed antivirus. We put two pieces of software at the centre of how we handle this: Hornetsecurity on email, and Vipre on the machines themselves. Both run quietly in the background, and we keep an eye on what they flag.
Email protection
Stopping bad email before it reaches your team
Email is still the most common starting point for an attack. Phishing has got more convincing over the years, and a single click on something that looks legitimate can hand over credentials or trigger a fake invoice that ends up paid. Hornetsecurity sits in front of your mailbox and catches the obvious problems before they land.
Anything it flags as suspicious is held in quarantine rather than delivered. That covers everything from straightforward spam through to phishing dressed up as a real supplier or a colleague. Microsoft 365's own spam controls catch the bulk of obvious stuff, but they don't give you visibility of what's actually being aimed at your business or where it's coming from.
Our custom Hornet report
A few times a day, a clean summary of what's been blocked lands in your inbox. The interface is simple, and clients tell us it's genuinely useful, especially for spotting any legitimate email that might have been caught by mistake.
Endpoint Protection
An agent on every machine
Email's one way in. The other is the device itself. A laptop that picks something up from a download, or a USB drive someone plugged in without thinking about what was on it. Vipre's our answer there. We're a registered Vipre partner, and we deploy their agents across our clients' PCs and servers. The agents report into a central console we manage, so we see what's been picked up, and we look into anything that needs more attention.
Vipre Anti-Virus
Scans files as they're opened or downloaded. Anything matching a known threat is quarantined, and we get an alert through the central console. The right fit for most small businesses.
Vipre EDR
Watches the behaviour of what's running on the machine, not just the files. Picks up threats that have already slipped past the antivirus layer and shuts them down. The right fit for compliance work like Cyber Essentials Plus, or teams spread across multiple sites.
We'll talk through which one fits your business before deploying anything.
Wider Setup
Where this fits with the rest of your security
Hornet and Vipre cover two of the most common ways things get in. They sit alongside three other parts of a sensible security setup.
Firewalls (WatchGuard)
We're accredited WatchGuard partners. We install and manage WatchGuard firewalls as part of our network builds. More on the Network Design page.
Cyber Essentials
The UK government baseline for security controls. Hornet and Vipre handle two of the requirements directly. More on the Cyber Security page.
Backup
The safety net for when something gets through anyway. A clean copy of your data, stored off-site. More on the Backup page.
